On May 7th the Russian Embassy in Djibouti organized a state reception on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Victory over nazism in the Second World War, which was attended by President of the Constitutional Council of Djibouti Abdi Ibrahim Absieh, Minister of women promotion and family planning Hasna Barkat Daoud, deputy chairman of the National Assembly Mohamed Barkat Abdillahi, President of the National Assembly Committee on international affairs Aisha Dabar Guelleh, representatives of local government bodies, political, business and social circles, as well as the diplomatic corps.
The audience warmly welcomed the screening of the Victory Parade of 1945 and a documentary film «Survival at Stalingrad». Within the framework of a non-profit campaign "I remember and I am proud" all the guests received the Ribbon of Saint George – a patriotic symbol of memory and gratitude for the Victory in Russia.
Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Djibouti Valery Orlov delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of the Soviet Union contribution to the victory over nazism. It was noted that for the Russians this day is sacred, since the country sacrificed 27 million lives for the Victory. The Ambassador highlighted the need for a deeper international cooperation and collective efforts of all the States to combat new common challenges, first of all - international terrorism. It is symbolic that 8 and 9 May were declared by the UN General Assembly to be Time of remembrance and reconciliation, because the foundation of the existing world order was laid down after World War II, including the Charter of the United Nations which constitutes a solid base of international law.
