Russian humanitarian aid delivered to Djibouti
Russian humanitarian aid was handed over on April 29,2020 to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Djibouti. This commitment was made in the framework of the project on strengthening the World Health Organization’s capacity for medical preparedness and emergency response, funded by the Government of the Russian Federation. The event was assisted by H.E.Mr Mikhail Golovanov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Djibouti and Somalia (non-resident).
Over 20 general-purpose medical modules containing 13.5 tons medicines, renewables and special equipment as well as tents and accessories to create two medical centers were delivered to the sea port of Djibouti.
The humanitarian aid is provided by the Russian Federation in cooperation with the World Health Organization as a response measure to epidemic waterborne disease (cholera, malaria, chikungunya, dengue fever and other dangerous infections). More than 200 000 Djibouti’s citizens will benefit from this initiative.
The Russian Federation attaches a great importance to humanitarian assistance to African States to prevent and eradicate the consequences of natural disasters and climate change (droughts, floods, food shortages, locust invasions) and also to bring an emergency response to fight dangerous diseases and viral epidemics, as part of the strategy that was adopted at the Russia-Africa Summit (October 23-24, 2019, Sochi).
